Puerto Vallarta
Travel Guide
Ocean below, jungle above, heat everywhere.
Puerto Vallarta is deeply Mexican and unapologetically queer.
Lively, safe, and charged with desire.
Tend to the practical so pleasure can take over.
All locations mentioned throughout this guide are pinned here.
Things to know before you arrive
You’ll land at PVR, a relatively small airport. Arrival is usually straightforward, though timing can vary, as it does in Mexico.

Please do not travel with vapes of any kind. Cannabis or nicotine, it doesn’t matter. Vapes are illegal to bring into Mexico and can result in serious fines or legal trouble.

If you have a sensitive stomach, consider starting a probiotic before travel. It’s a simple way to help your body adjust and enjoy everything without thinking about it.

Once your flights are booked, please share your arrival and departure details with us. This allows us to coordinate logistics and, when possible, connect you with other guests arriving around the same time, including shared transportation. If you prefer to arrange airport transportation independently, you can reserve it here:
The airport is about 20 minutes from Zona Romántica, with typical fares around $35 USD.

It’s helpful to travel with a small amount of pesos in cash for ease and flexibility.
You’ll find more practical details in Tips and Tricks.

Make sure WhatsApp is active on your phone before arrival. It’s our primary way of staying connected locally.

Please also send your STI test results in advance. Tests must be no older than three months, and local testing is not available at the last minute.

Moving Around
Walking is the easiest way to move through the city. Most places are at most a 10 to 15 minute stroll away, and the streets are safe and lively throughout the day and night.

For longer distances, Uber is the preferred option – simple, cheap, reliable – and gets you exactly where you’re going without friction.

The streets are cobblestone and uneven. Save the heels for the villa and our evenings together. Comfortable sandals or flip flops will serve you best.

Nights are active and crowd packed. Stay aware, move with confidence, and you’ll fit right in.
What to Pack
Expect warm, effortless days around 75–85°F.
The sun is generous and the air comfortable. Most evenings feel just as comfortable in what you wore during the day. A light layer is plenty if you tend to run cool.

Bring swimwear that stays put. Waves, salt, and spontaneous dips are part of the landscape. Water shoes are a nice addition if you like wandering beyond soft sand.

Sun protection, hat, hydration, and whatever helps your body feel good after heat, salt and long nights.
Food That Raises Your Dopamine
Puerto Vallarta is quite a gastronomic hub. Over the years, chefs from around the world have made this city home, blending international influence with local ingredients and Mexican tradition.
Expect thoughtful cooking alongside beloved staples like mole, tamales, ceviche, tacos al pastor,
and fresh seafood pulled straight from the ocean.
The food scene here is relaxed, generous, and far more interesting than it first appears.
Take your probiotics and enjoy without fear.

Daytime leans toward mariscos. Fish, shrimp, octopus, and ceviche served bright, clean, and straight from the coast.
Nighttime belongs to carnitas. This is when deeper, richer meats take over. We highly recommend trying tacos de suadero. They’re a local favorite for a reason. Tripas and other cuts are also worth exploring. If it’s on the plancha, it’s usually there because it’s good.

A local rule worth following: if locals are standing there eating, you’re safe.
Another simple rule: try the salsa before committing. Let your palate lead.

For the full experience, we highly recommend a street taco tour with our local friend Memo. It’s the best way to understand the rhythm, the rules, and where locals actually eat.

Tips & Tricks
Puerto Vallarta is generous, warm, and slightly chaotic in the best way. A few things will make your life easier and your smile bigger.

Cash rules. Cards work in many places, but pesos are king. Always pay in pesos, never in U.S. dollars. Street food, small spots, tips, little extras, all smoother with cash. Tipping at restaurants is 15 percent. If service blows your mind, you’ll know what to do.

At the airport, after customs and luggage, you may be offered free drinks, “information,” or a friendly chat that somehow turns into a sales pitch. Smile, say no, and keep walking like you’ve done this before.

Uber is your best friend for traveling in town. Easy, clear, no guessing. If you take a taxi, agree on the price before you get in. Always.

The ice is safe. Your margarita will not betray you. If your stomach tends to be dramatic, probiotics help.
Taste the salsa before committing. Some are sweet, some are fire, some are both.

Be skeptical of tequila shops offering free tastings and “exclusive distilleries.” Many are tourist traps with inflated prices and aggressive charm. Real tequila is better enjoyed slowly, in good company, at trusted bars.

Negotiation is normal here. Souvenirs, crafts, tours, small shops, it’s all part of the dance. Keep it friendly, respectful, and playful. Starting about twenty five percent lower is common. This is not combat, it’s flirting.
Connection Beyond Euphorium
Connection is at the heart of Euphorium.
